In light of the significant advances in artificial intelligence systems and their growing impact on people’s lives, it has become imperative to examine the legal consequences that these developments may entail. Accordingly, this article analyzes, among other issues, whether these new systems—endowed with the capacity to learn or create—can now, or in the future, be regarded as legal persons. It also explores whether such systems could be held liable for the harm they cause or whether liability should instead continue to rest with their creators.
